Boondocks’s story begins in Tagalog: bundok meant “a mountain.” Literally mountain, referring to remote, rural terrain. It reached English by 1940s as boondocks. Brought back by American soldiers stationed in the Philippines for remote rural areas. Today, boondocks means a remote, rural area far from a city.
